One of the most common questions I get from my patients is “Doc, are there any things that I can get to help me at home or work?”

The answer is yes!

Please Note: I am not affiliated with these products, nor am I making any money for recommending them. These are just tools that I like for myself, and recommend to others, especially my patients.

1. A Laptop Stand

Based on the US Consesus, 78 percent of american households own a laptop. Although laptops are convenient for travel and give you the ability to work from anywhere, they don’t allow for great posture. Paired with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, laptop stands can help you achieve better posture while working on your laptop.

Below are 2 of my favorite laptop stands that I’ve used:

I generally like to use this at home. It allows for a simple sit to stand type “desk.” It has multiple settings for the perfect height and stability. It can also be used while on the couch, floor, and bed if necessary.
This is one of the most user friendly laptop stands that I’ve used. It can fit conveniently in a backpack or purse. It takes seconds to open and set up, which makes it more likely for you to use it.

In order to be effective, a laptop stand should be easy to use and customizable.

If you live in America, you probably sit for several hours throughout your day, which can cause your lower back to flatten and lose it’s necessary curvature. Unfortunately, this increases the stress on the joints in your spine and leads to pain and discomfort.

A good lumbar support pillow can help you maintain the proper arch. This is an important tool that can help ease the tension on the muscles and ligaments. Keep in mind, not all lumbar support pillows work for all chairs. It may be best to find different ones for different chairs.

That being said, this is one that I would recommend.

This phone accessory became popular within the last few years. They provide functionality and versatility. One of the reasons I recommend Popsockets is that they not only help you to take a  good selfie, but they also make for great ergonomics.  They give you the ability to use your cellphone with one hand which can also help with your posture
If you have abnormal posture or stress, your muscles can become tight and tense. By working on releasing trigger points, you can help to relax those muscles. Using a tennis or lacrosse ball can help you to target specific muscles that can be contributing to your aches and pains.
One of the most versatile pieces of equipment that I’ve used is a foam roller. You can use it to target trigger points, stretch muscles, and increase mobility. It can take some practice to learn what works best for you, but finding a daily routine with this tool can really help your body and alleviate pain.
aThis is one of the coolest products that I have seen regarding posture. Unlike other tools like posture braces, vests, and straps, this device vibrates when you begin to slouch. It alerts you when your posture is bad, and reminds you to engage your muscles and stand or sit upright.

You can choose to use it with adhesive as shown in the picture or use a necklace accessory for an additional cost. Again, I am not affiliated with this product, nor am I making any money for recommending it.

Using these tools can help you keep your body and spine in good shape. If used properly, they can allow you to stay active and moving. I hope these tools help you.

If you are experiencing pain or discomfort, I recommend seeing a doctor.  Although these are great tools to help, be sure to ask your Doctor if they are right for you.
